Shot blasting process can be determined in two main blasting operation systems such as air pressure systems and turbine systems.. The blasting materials are known as shot blasting abrasives and simply called as abrasives.
Blasting process coomonly applicable in many industries such as casting,automotiv construction,shipyard,glass industries and many more..And especially used for prior to coatings and paintings,surface preparations and cleaning,deburring,peening.
Abrasives are applied and processed thoroughly by air pressure or turbine power systems onto surface of the materials.
Main determinative factors for the quality of shot blasting are ; air pressure,turbine system,types of abrasives,blasting tanks and the nozzles.Air pessure and turbine is combined to system as repulsitory and winnower of the grains and determine the blasting effect on the material surface.The most important determinative factor for surface treatment is the type of the abrasive used in process.
Blasting abrasives are determinable in two types regarding to their spherical or angular shapes.
Angular and edged shape abrasives are called as grits.Steel grits,stainless steel grits,aluminiumoxides are some kinds of grits.These abrasives are commonly used to roughen the surfaces prior to coating and painting purposes.Grits enable the surface roughened which provides almost an eligible position for coating material to well grab on the surface. There are a few important measures to take during the application of grits.These abrasives cause scrappping effect in case of constantly application on the material surface.When blasting the angular shaped grits they give a cutting effect on the surface.Therefore frequent use must be avoided.Another important matter is the size of grits.The size of grits determines the scrapping effect on surface.The false size grit application scraps the surface deep and for this reason the consumption of coating material increases and cause cost flow.
Abrasives having spherical shapes are called as shots.Steel shots,stainless steel shots ,glass beads and rounded abrasives are some types of shots.These abrasives give different effect to surface than grits,mainly used to give finishing effect on the surface. The main purpose of application shots is acquired to provide homogeneous sight and clean the surface of materials.
One of the most important determiners for fine blasting are the blasting nozlles. Nozlles,exposed to high pressure friction must be made of material having high resistance of wearing.
The diameter of nozzle effects to air flow directly.Defection in one unit of nozzle diameter effects to air consumption four times.This increasement effects to costs negatively.Additionaly it may cause an immoderate effect on surface of the material.
